Health of the women and children in a country is indicative of the commitment of the Government of that country towards the overall development and welfare of its people. As a part of this process of refining the mother and child health care approach, the AYUSH systems have been actively involved in the provision of health care services. Out of theses AYUSH systems, Homoeopathic has a strong role to play in the health of the women and children.

The health of women and children is the prime issue with the Government of India, while the mainstream medicine has achieved success in redcuing the morality associated with women and children, the benefits of the AYUSH systems have not been strategically explored for making an impact on the morbidity statistics of health care. With this background the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare took an initiative to launch a National level Campaign on Homoeopathy for Mother and child care.

As a part of this a State level Training Porgramme for Trainers (STOT) was organised to train the 50 members of Trainers from various categories from the state, including, Chief medical officers, Hospital Medical superintendents, NGOs, Homoeopathic Organisations Indian Institute Homoeopathic Physicians, Institute of Practicing Homoeopathy, Medical officers from Dept of Ayush and NHRM, Private Practitioners, Executives from REACH, HELF, EMRI, APHMA, to train the local practitioners at the district level programmes. The training module prepared by the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH) with financial assistance of the World Health Organisation (WHO) aims at the capacity building and skill enhancement of the Homeopathic practitioners whilst dealing with common mother and child health problems.

The Obstetricians, Paediatricians, Homoeopaths and Educationists were involved in making of this Training Module. This frame works provides and opportunity to look at Mother and Child Health Care in a comprehensive manner. The training programme did not have a typical class room approach and gave more emphasis on self learning.

This 40 hours training programme conducted on Homoeopathy for Mother and Child Health Care, where the ample opportunity for practical session and clinical material was available to provide an opportunity to the Homoeopathic physicians to enhance their capacity and skill in dealing with ailments of women and children in day to day clinical practice.

This training programme was inaugurated on 5TH Oct, 2009, by Dr. P. RAGHAVA REDDY. Principal, JSPS Govt. Homoeo Medical College, Hyderabad.Dr. G. JANARDHANA REDDY was the Chief guest of the programme. Dr. PRASAD the State Head for WHO was present to look after the activities of the STOT programme. Dr. BAIG of CCRH was the Co ordinator of this training.

The eminent speakers, other teachers from various institutes like, Gandhi Meidcal college, Osmania Medical college, Kamineni Medical College, JSPS Govt. Homoeopathic Medical colleges, Govt maternity Hospital, Apollo Hospital, Kamineni Dental College, REACH, were lectured the training programme with their practical experience and made the trainers more informative. Eminent teachers and speakers from Homoeopathic fraternity, Dr. G. Janardhana Reddy, Addl. Director (Ayush) (Retd) Govt. of AP Dr. Shams Babar, Dr. S. Praveen Kumar, Dr. G. Srinivasulu, Dr. A. Rajendra Reddy, Dr.Nazeer, Dr.Lagnajitha, Dr. K.S. Sai Ram, Dr.Padmavathi were also presented their papers concerned.

The elaborated training modules in three volumes on Obstetrics, Gynaecology, Paediatrics and other allied topics, three types of posters, one Booklet in regional language, all these well designed by CCRH and financially supported by WHO, were distributed to trainees for their future reference.

The validectory function was held at the end of the training programme, on 9th Oct, 2009. Dr.Nagaraja Rao, Member, CCH was the chief guest and distributed the Participant Certificates to the trainees. In his address to gathering, he stressed the need of Homoeopathy in mother and child care for future generations.
